Liz Hirst

Teaching

» Liz Hirst started teaching flute when she was 16, privately and in various schools such as St.Cuthberts in Auckland before she left New Zealand. In Germany she taught at the Black Forest Music School in Neustadt and Lenzkirch, followed by the Musikschule in Breisgau, based in Glottertal, and the Freiburg Wind Orchestra, based in Haslach. She is experienced in preparing students for different Wind Ensemble Exams, for the German Youth Music Competition and for auditions for postgraduate studies.

» Liz enjoys teaching very much and sees her first priority as helping particularly younger students to enjoy music-making at the same time as learning discipline, problem-solving and social skills. She has been lucky enough to have taught a great number of talented, dedicated pupils and is committed to investing them with the technical and aural skills needed for further study.

» Her most rewarding moments are when, during a lesson, the students grasp the musical language of the composer and begin to express themselves with their instrument.

»Liz currently teaches at the  Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne.
